The Lady Raider Dance Team, recognized four years running as the best dance team in the league, will hold auditions for the 2013-14 squad beginning Sunday, September 15 at the Richmond Coliseum. Callbacks will continue during the week for those who make the first cut, and the final round of auditions will be on Sunday, September 22 at the Byrd Theater.
An audition prep class will be held Thursday, September 12 starting at 7:30 pm at Midlothian Athletic Club (10800 Center View Drive). Registration begins at 7:00, and the cost is $10. Lady Raider Director Kelly Allen, a former Washington Redskins cheerleader and captain, as well as a Washington Wizards dancer and team captain, will conduct the prep class with assistance from the Lady Raider captains. The class will let prospective Lady Raiders know what to wear and what to expect during auditions, and address the time commitments of everyone who makes the team.
Registration for the audition begins at 11:00 am Sunday. All entrants should enter the Coliseum through the lower Leigh Street doors. The cost to audition is $35, payable by cash or credit card the day of auditions. You must be at least 18 to audition, but there are no minimum or maximum height/weight requirements. More information on the audition and the application can be found on the Raiders’ website, www.RichmondRaidersProFootball.com.
The final round of auditions on the 22nd will be open to the public. Tickets are $10 or two for $15 and will be available the day of auditions at the Byrd Theater box office. The public is also encouraged to vote for their favorite dancer starting Tuesday, September 17 on the Lady Raiders Facebook page, www.facebook.com/LadyRaidersDanceTeam.
