Teams face off for first and only time this season
RICHMOND, VA (May 27, 2015) – The Richmond Raiders (5-4) travel to Allentown this weekend as they get set to take on the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (6-2) on Friday night. This is the first and only meeting between the two teams this season, as the Raiders look to help solidify a spot in the playoffs. The Raiders are coming off of a 46-40 win over the Trenton Freedom last Saturday in a thriller at the Richmond Coliseum.
Last week saw the Raiders win the second game of a three game series over Trenton. Similar to the other games in the series, both teams allowed each other to stay close during the game. It would come down to a battle of defenses, as each team snagged interceptions and made crucial stops when called upon. In the end, QB Jonathan Bane would complete 20 of 46 passes for 240 yards and four touchdowns. Bane also ran for one more score. He connected with WR Ron Davis twice and receivers Robert Holland and Herb Jones once to round out the scoring. Richmond’s offense leads the league in scoring offense and touchdowns scored, and they will look to carry that into Friday’s game.
The Raiders face a Steelhawks team that sits just a half game back from the Columbus Lions for first place in the PIFL. Richmond’s defense is sure to be looked to again to make big plays against the top rushing team in the league. Lehigh Valley is coming off of a 50-31 win over Alabama last week. In that game, QB Shane McSweeny completed 15 of 22 passes for three touchdowns, and he also rushed for 51 yards and three more scores.
The team will return to action at home on June 6 when they host the Nashville Venom for Sports Reality Sports Day in RVA. Tickets for all remaining home games start as low as $7 and are available on the Raiders’ website, www.RichmondRaidersProFootball.com, or by calling 1-855-GO-RAIDERS or 804-780-0430.
