Richmond wins third straight
RICHMOND, Va. (May 23, 2015) –The Richmond Raiders (5-4) officially have a winning record after their 46-40 win over Trenton (4-4) on Saturday night at the Richmond Coliseum. Richmond continued a hot streak they began in Alabama back on May 2. This was their third straight win, and their second over Trenton this season. Richmond defeated Trenton back on April 17 at the Coliseum in another barnburner 52-50.
In a series that has been evenly matched this season, both teams have seemed to keep each other within striking distance throughout each game. Saturday night was no different as the score at halftime was just 26-12. Once again, it was a battle of the defenses too, as Richmond intercepted four passes from Hunter Wanket and Steve Panasuk that were returned for a total of 68 yards. Trenton would also intercept Jonathan Bane twice.T.C. Stevens was a bright spot in the Raiders offense as he hit three field goals of 30, 35, and 22 yards, respectively. The Raiders were able to hang on for the victory after a failed Trenton two-point conversion attempt with less than a minute left in the game.
Leading the offense for the Raiders, QB Jonathan Bane completed 20 of 46 passes for 240 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also called his own number once, running in another score. Bane would connect with WR Ron Davis twice and receivers Robert Holland and Herb Jones once. Holland hauled in 5 passes for 62 yards and Jones caught 4 passes for 51 yards.
For Trenton, QB Steve Panasuk came in early in the game to replace the injured Hunter Wanket. Panasuk completed 17 of 29 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns. He found receiver Milton Colbert twice and Richie Martin once in the end zone.
The Raiders are next in action on Friday, May 29 as they travel to Lehigh Valley for the first time this season. The team will return to action at home on June 6 when they face the Nashville Venom for Sports Reality Sports Day in RVA.
