Raiders Seek Victory After Week One Loss to Freedom

First game was defensive battle in 41-33 loss to Trenton

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Raiders (1-3) will seek to avenge an early-season loss Friday as they take on the Trenton Freedom (2-1) at the Coliseum. In their week one matchup, the Raiders fell to the Freedom 41-33 after a second-half comeback by the Freedom. A few things have changed offensively for the Raiders since that first week, including a new starting quarterback in Jonathan Bane. They will look to their new play caller to continue in the recent success he has found in leading the offense.

The Raiders are coming off of a disappointing 47-43 loss to the Columbus Lions last week, in which they saw a 43-41 lead slip away with just nine seconds remaining in the game. Throughout the game, the two teams were evenly matched as neither led by more than five at any point and the game saw 11 lead changes. However, a 40-yard pass from Columbus QB Casey Kacz to WR Terrance Ebagua as time expired put the game just out of reach for the Raiders.

Trenton travels to Richmond after a 75-23 win against the Erie Explosion last Saturday. Recently-acquired QB Steve Panasuk led the offense, completing 13 of 14 passes for 193 yards and six touchdowns. The Freedom defense, which caused issues for the Raiders in their first meeting, had a monster game posting nine sacks, one interception, three forced fumbles and a touchdown off of a fumble recovery.

Earlier this season, Panasuk was a member of the Raiders team, meaning Coach Fuller has an intimate knowledge of his play style. Two keys to this meeting will be pressuring Panasuk and keeping the Freedom defense in check.
