Team takes on the defending PIFL champs Saturday
RICHMOND, VA (April 23, 2015) – The Richmond Raiders (2-3) hit the road Saturday to take on the defending PIFL champions, the Nashville Venom (2-2) in Nashville. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season since the Venom handed the Raiders a 63-28 loss last season at the Richmond Coliseum.
The Raiders go into this week’s game off of a thrilling 52-50 victory against the Trenton Freedom last week. Following a huge 24 point second quarter, the Raiders were able to take a 31-29 lead going into half time. It would be the defense that sparked the team to victory though, as they recorded six sacks for a total loss of 24 yards, forced two fumbles, and Christian Lacey returned one of those fumbles for a touchdown. Even in the final seconds as Trenton attempted a two-point conversion to tie the game, the defense stepped up, making a valuable stop which allowed the team to hang on for a victory.
Nashville also enters Saturday’s game coming off a tight victory. They narrowly defeated Columbus last week 58-55, with kicker Christian Reed nailing an 18-yard field goal as time expired to earn the win. The Venom are led by QB Charles McCullum who threw for 410 yards and eight touchdowns last week on 29 of 45 passing.
Saturday marks the first of a three game road trip for the Raiders. They will return to the Coliseum on May 23. Fans can tune into the game by listening to the online broadcast courtesy of WNSR in Nashville. Tickets for home games start as low as $7.
