Announce Participating Bands for VIRGINIA BEER LIVE

July 26, 2013 – For the official kickoff for Virginia Craft Beer Month, the Richmond Coliseum and Virginia Craft Brewers Guild welcome three local bands which will provide live music throughout the five-hour festival: Brickwall Jackson, an alt-country duo; Psychobilly Cadillac, a funky rock n roll band; and The X Band, a tribal rhythm rock band. Virginia Beer Live is the first indoor Virginia craft beer festival to feature over 20 Virginia-based breweries at the Richmond Coliseum. This event is focused on local music, food and an unprecedented selection of Virginia’s finest beers. Come out and enjoy Richmond’s Downtown with an evening of Virginia-brewed libations. Mix and mingle on the arena floor while you sample over 40 beers and meet the brewers who create them!

Brickwall Jackson is an alt-country duo from Central Virginia. Consisting of songwriter/guitarist Johnny Hudak and lead vocalist Missy Boland, Brickwall Jackson’s music is a mix of styles and is evocative of such artists as The Band Perry and Tom Petty. Far from the typical pop country format heard in the mainstream today, Brickwall Jackson’s music is a no frills yet poetic look inside the human condition. Brickwall Jackson features Melissa Boland, vocals; John Hudak, guitar/vocals; Chuck Harrell, bass guitar; Shane Fowlkes, drums; and David Cructher, keys and organ.

“Richmond is in dire need of Americana and country music that matters and actually turns ears. With Brickwall Jackson, this is happening. The quintet delivers the songs that embody our lives. Work, family, play, love, stress and life itself is all foreshadowed through the deep arrangements of Hudak’s songwriting and through Brickwall Jackson’s marvelous accord.” – John Lewis Morgan, RVA Magazine

Psychobilly Cadillac is a three-piece original Rock n Roll band from Richmond, VA, featuring Scott Harris, lead vocal, guitars; John Keefe, bass, vocals; and Mark Whitesides, drums, vocals. Their name often confuses at first glance and leads one to assume that they are of the psychobilly genre. Their name is actually a tip of the hat to Johnny Cashs song, “One Piece at a Time.” The song tells of a man who works at General Motors in Detroit, Michigan and assembles Cadillacs. He decides to steal a Cadillac, using his assembly line job to obtain the parts one piece at a time. After 24 years of collecting he assembles the Psychobilly Cadillac. After many years of collecting, they have finally assembled their Cadillac. They are Psychobilly Cadillac.

“Psychobilly Cadillac was fierce – and when I say that, my eyebrows rise and my eyes widen. They’re a hyper-technical, old-fashioned funky rock and roll powerhouse trio. Well-rehearsed, synchronized guitar/bass riffs, exaggerated build-ups and breakdowns; all part and parcel of Psychobilly Cadillac.” – Dan Mulrooney, RVA Magazine

The X Band was formed under total secrecy, as a surprise to the Scottish community. Their first gig was entertainment with a teaser show for a “Burns Night” function. It was a huge success. Other shows since have included The National Night Out, Field Day of the Past, Ashland Strawberry Fair main stage, Gayton Kirk Celtic Festival, Meadow Highland Games, Church Hill Irish Festival, Frederick, MD Celtic Festival. They have a CD out and are working on a documentary DVD. The band has evolved in the past two years and has a unique sound through the PA, including digital effects, delay, etc. Members include “Pipes” David Hinton, bagpipes, timbales; “XO” Aisha Hinton, snare drum; Sheila Hinton, hammer bass drum, rain stick; “Roz” Rosalind Moret, bagpipes, conga drums; “Rock Star” Wes Arnold, full set drums; and “Mad Man Glengarry” Garry Madison, hammer bass drum.
