Team hunts for first win against Alabama
RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Raiders (0-2) return home for the first time this season on Saturday as they take on the Alabama Hammers (1-0) at 7:00 p.m. This week, the Raiders are looking for their first win after dropping a close game to Columbus last Sunday. The team will look to continue its win streak against Alabama after narrowly defeating them 38-35 in their only meeting last season, thanks to a 20-0 fourth quarter comeback.
Last week, the Raiders fell to the Columbus Lions 52-50 in Georgia. The game was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than two touchdowns at any point. In fact, the Raiders ledQB Jonathan Bane got his first start of the season, completing 25 of 41 passes for 309 yards, one interception and seven touchdowns. Four Raiders were able to find the endzone during the game, spreading out the scoring for the Raiders. Receivers Gerron Bryant, Herb Jones and Devin Wilson all recorded two touchdowns, and Ronald Davis scored one. The defense even played a role in gathering points, as they recorded a safety in the second quarter. Wilson had nine catches for 134 yards and his two touchdowns, and DB Maurice Thorne posted six tackles.
The Hammers won their first game of the season last week against the Nashville Venom 34-26. Charles McClain and MicoMcSwain, both receivers for the Hammers, recorded two touchdowns each in the win. QB Garrett Sufphen went 22-40 for 213 yards on the night.
